Machine-to-machine communications, known by the abbreviation M2M, use electronics and IT to centralise and then feed back all the information from a system and enable interaction with it. It is the combination of information and communication technologies.
M2M communications are recommended for intruder alarm systems that transmit data related to use, detection, intrusion, emergency or control of home automation elements.
This is all the more true with our new generation of intelligent, communicating alarm centres, where data feedback, alerts and remote control can be compromised if the telephone package or SIM card for the transmitter is not suitable.
Why choose an M2M SIM card for your alarm?
Many users opt for traditional SIM cards in their alarm system to receive alerts in the event of an intrusion or system fault. However, the general terms and conditions of sale of telephone operators stipulate that traditional SIM cards must be used exclusively in mobile equipment enabling communication between two people.
For example, with Free, article 4 of the subscriber's obligations specifies in paragraph 4.3 that the use of the Service and/or SIM in equipment not dedicated to interpersonal communications is strictly prohibited. Article 7, concerning suspension or termination, states that the operator may suspend the Service without compensation in the event of a breach of the subscriber's legal or contractual obligations.
Other operators such as RED by SFR (articles 8.5.1 and 8.5.2), Bouygues Telecom's B&YOU (article 4.1) and Sosh (article 12.2) also require communications to be between natural persons only and strictly prohibit re-routed communications via a radio box.
Operators can even seek compensation for inappropriate use of their services, which can lead to network saturation to the detriment of other subscribers. This misuse may also be subject to criminal penalties and fines. The major risk remains the suspension of the line, which would lead to a transmission failure in the event of an intrusion or burglary.
Such a risk is inconceivable for an alarm system, which must be able to emit and transmit intruder alerts, detection alerts, activation alerts and technical alerts (low battery, opening of a detector, power cut, telephone line failure, etc.) in all circumstances.
The effectiveness of your alarm system, whether linked to a remote monitoring service (Securitas, EPS, Verisure, etc.) or self-monitoring, depends on the use of a SIM card dedicated to "Machine To Machine" (M2M) communications.
In short, traditional telephone packages, although often economical, are not suitable and can compromise the security of your alarm system. It is essential to use an M2M card obtained from an approved reseller such as Alarm Kit, with or without a package dedicated to M2M communications.
That's why, in order to guarantee the best solutions for its customers, Alarm Kit recommends the M2M SIM for their 4G alarm control units. Ensure the reliability and security of your alarm system with a suitable M2M card.
